XPERIA MASHLAB – CASSPER NYOVEST AND JEREMY LOOPS NOW IN STUDIO

Following the announcement of the fourth instalment of Xperia Mashlab, Sony Mobile was thrilled to reveal that the collaborative masterpiece with modern folk musical maestro Jeremy Loops and the multi-award winning South African hip-hop artist Cassper Nyovest has come to life.

Set for release on the 5FM Forbes & Fix Show, this exclusive track was inspired by the ups and downs of touring and being on the road - away from family and friends. The song bounces between the cathartic highs and epic lows that come along with fan-filled stadiums and the absolute reality of what it takes to be a musician.

“The uniqueness of being part of something like Xperia Mashlab is that we both wanted to the song to be something fresh and true without it sounding like a Jeremy Loops song that has Cassper in the background or a Cassper Nyovest track with Jeremy singing over it,” said Loops. “Our goal was to ensure there was proper synergy and the track would be seamless when people choose to listen,” Loops concluded.

“Meeting Jeremy was a breath of fresh air,” says Nyovest. “Through this co-lab I got to understand his passion for music and how he not only elaborates when he is in conversation with you but how he elaborates with you in his music.”

Once available, the track will be exclusively available for download through Xperia Lounge, an app available for you to download on Google Play through your Android™ smartphone or tablet running version 2.3 or later. For owners of Sony’s flagship Z3 series devices, the Xperia MashLab tracks will also be available in High Resolution Audio, letting consumers hear the tracks as the musicians hear it in studio.

Xperia Mashlab is collaborative project between two South African artists as voted for by 5FM’s audience. Once the artists have been finalised the audience participates in the creation the track, then generates the single’s artwork. To date, Xperia Mashlab has created collaborations between Al Bairre and PHFAT, Kwesta and Black Motion, as well as Toya De Lazy and David Kramer. Xperia Mashlab is making South African music history live on 5FM every day.

Moneypenny takes the lead in campaign film for Sony

Naomie Harris stars in a 60 second campaign film, as she fights to deliver Bond’s must-have Xperia mobile phone

YouTube 'Made for Bond' ad

Ahead of the release of the highly anticipated motion picture SPECTRE, Sony has unveiled its ‘Made for Bond’ advertising campaign. Set against a backdrop of London’s South Bank, Moneypenny starring Naomie Harris uses the Sony RX100 IV camera to capture super-slow-motion surveillance as a drama unfolds with an intense chase to deliver Bond’s Xperia Z5 smartphone. The campaign film is directed by Danny Kleinman – the man behind many of the legendary Bond title sequences.

Packing a powerful punch, the short film follows a tense chase across London’s South Bank as Moneypenny fights off mysterious villains to deliver Bond’s Xperia Z5 phone.  Using state-of-the-art tools, including an advanced compact RX100 IV Cyber-shot camera, she captures surveillance in super-slow motion.

The 60-second piece has been produced by the legendary British director Danny Kleinman.  Created by ad agency adam&eveDDB with production company Rattling Stick, the majority of the campaign film was shot on Sony’s F65 professional 4K cinema camera, interspersed with ‘slow motion’ surveillance that can be seen through the screen of the RX100 IV camera, and photography shown on the screen of the Xperia Z5.

Kleinman says, “The campaign film truly captures the excitement of the chase, being on a mission and taking the viewer on the journey, all set against an iconic London backdrop.”
Harris adds, “London provides the perfect setting for the campaign film.  Ultimately, at the centre of Bond is Britishness, so it was really important that the ad was shot here.  It is not your traditional commercial; it’s an action-packed mini movie in itself.”

Kazuo Hirai, President and CEO, Sony Corporation adds, “Sony has been a proud partner of the iconic Bond films since Casino Royale. While both the Xperia Z5 and RX100 IV are action-packed and full of features, they are also real, everyday-life gadgets.  Whether being used by Moneypenny on undercover surveillance or a creative photographer who wants to take and share outstanding photography captured on social channels, they’re easy to use, pocketable and award-winning products for day-to-day and secret agent use alike.”

The campaign officially launches with the TV commercial, which will first air in the UK on 1st October 2015 and will run until 8th November. The media campaign led by MediaCom also encompasses print, retail, digital and OOH. With its compact size, the power of the premium RX100 IV camera – featuring the a world’s first 1.0 inch type stacked Exmor RS CMOS sensor, 40x super-slow-motion video capture at up to 1000fps, and the ability to speedily read data 5x faster than previous models – makes it the perfect accessory for Moneypenny.

With the fastest autofocus in a leading smartphone delivering a ground-breaking speed of just 0.03 seconds, a fingerprint sensor integrated within the iconic power button, and beautifully sleek waterproof design, the Xperia Z5 is an advanced next-generation smartphone ideal for Bond.

Kickin It In My Converse

I'm kick'n it in my Converse, so I write a verse - to converse with poets across the universe. To give them hope, so they can cope with the idea of being dope. I did it...

We're diverse in this conquest, some walking in reverse but still stepping to the beat. Take a seat, don't worry I won't tell you a story of defeat. In these feet I raise fires in the heat. In these feet I rule the streets, no stress! M'nate like sweets.

Platinum step. In my Converse feelin phly like a All Star, Dammnit I AM AN ALLSTAR! I could be chillin with Chuck Taylor but I'd rather be here. Emersed in the rebirth of style @ its finest.

In these feet call me your Highness, Kgosigadi. Fresh Kicks and a mean step, I don't front - I keep the standard even in my stilettos but then again I'd rather be kickin it in my Converse, just to write a piece like this!

Simple Elegance
Physical address: 1110 Pretorius Street, Hatfield
Cuisine: Bistro, Light meals, French
Ambience: Comfy & Casual
Opening times: Monday to Friday 8.30am-4pm, Saturday 9am-3pm

Did you say hand painted?
Rated as one of the trending student hotspots in Pretoria, the Honey Badger Bistro is a new age, chic restaurant – the happy marriage of the love of art and eating healthy to create a comfy and casual ambience with preservative-free food. It provides light and hearty bistro-type French food and it is connected to the Phantom Grotto art gallery where you can browse and buy art pieces and view exhibitions at least every two weeks.
Die Skim Grot (The Phantom Grotto)
A fabulous setting which combines a mixture of vintage and modern furnishings, with a city urban feel enclosed by a reed wall to provide privacy is beckoning and I just love the little nooks and crannies which give the bistro an at home, sit and relax all day aura.
You could just sit and relax all day!
They serve an exceptional all day menu from breakfast to dinner, even finger snacks. Their meals are served on awesome little wooden boards which sport the Honey Badger logo, their specialities range from home-made exported Ethiopian coffee (a must try) to mouth-watering bagel sandwiches, so do make sure you check their daily ‘Sandwich of the Day’ specials. An average meal at the bistro will set you back about R56, which is totally great for a healthy, home-made platter of heart-warming food.
Mouth-watering... isn't it?
Sandwich anyone????

Fine Fashion Finds

As a self-proclaimed conisor of fine fashion, I’m ever so proud when I come across a fine fashion find – this Wednesday as I trotted through Jozi I came across a man named charli.
You’re probably wondering what is so fine fashion findish about him, well let me tell you… Charles Obura is a Kenyan born South African who has found a way to make money by making bags and accessories out of any and everything he can find.

cute clutch with a touch of Africa

His target market is that daring person who is not afraid to be unique and bold - he describes his bags and accessories as over the limit, stylish and dramatic. He prides himself on the fact that everthing he makes is hand made. Four years and still going strong, he promises his customers quality products that will make them look different and less western as most of them are ethic and appeal to the africanism in a person. Charli wants to take his products across the boarders to reach a broader target market - he sees himself competing withbig name brands like Gucci and  Louis Vuitton.

Charli's bags are creative and innovative, it's not everyday you can get a bag shaped like our continent

any material goes, even old vinyls

If you like what you see and want to buy or find out more about charli's eco friendly bags and accessories then you can call him on 076 366 5323 or email him @ charlimo@gmail.com

Nerd Republic

From the first day I heard the name Nerd Republic I knew I’d love it. Filled with spunky and funky nerdish swag, NR is a baby brand looking to make its way into the big league.
I got a chance to chat to one of its co-founders Phenyo Seemise about this new brand and what it is about.

       1.   HOW DID THE NERD REPUBLIC COME ABOUT?
The brand came about when we saw there was a gap in the market for something fresh that would go across the colour lines. The concept of turning intelligence into something cool and fashionable that appeals to a broader market.

      2.   WHO IS YOUR TARGET AUDIENCE?
The beauty of the brand is that it does not have a limited target market, it appeals to a 6 year old up to a young adult depending on your preferred style.
3.   WHAT SINGLES OUT NERD REPUBLIC FROM OTHER BRANDS?
The brand name itself has the potential of branching into other markets and products like bags and stationary, book clubs etc.
It's a Lifestyle, Dare to Hate

4.   LOOKING AT YOUR COMPETING BRANDS, DO YOU THINK YOU STAND A CHANCE AND WHY DO YOU THINK SO?
Yes, other similar brands names could be limited to just clothing whereas we are a movement as opposed to just a clothing label.
5.   WHAT HAVE YOUR CHALLENGES BEEN SO FAR?
The biggest challenge like any other new company or ideal is marketing, but not only that but the methods used to market the brand. It is very difficult to pin point what method will work so we have to be very careful not to waste resources into the wrong marketing strategies.

Hot girls love Nerds
 6.   WHAT ARE THE NERDS SAYING ABOUT THE MZANSI FASHION INDUSTRY?
South African fashion has evolved and has become more exciting and less intense, because in the past designers were pressured into not losing the “African touch” in their designs so their designs became too “traditional” and could not be worn on any given day. They were for special events so that kind of limited their market. Now it’s fresh and easily accessible, wearable at any time and best of all it still has that African feeling to it without being too much.

7.   CAN WE EXPECT TO SEE THE NR GRACING THE FASHION WEEK RUNWAYS ANY TIME SOON?
Now we are still at the marketing stages of the brand, as soon as we have established a following and get a feel of what our market is hungry for then no doubt will take the fashion industry by storm.
8.   ANY FUTURE PLANS FOR NR?
We have big plans but we are going to keep them under wraps for now because they are a work in progress.
9.   HOW DOES NR FEEL ABOUT THE GREEN MOVEMENT AND THE GOVERNMENTS PLANS ON SUSTAINING A GREEN ECONOMY?
It’s a green initiative which we support fully and obviously try to get involved where ever we can as far as that goes.
10.   DO YOU WATCH THE BIG BANG THEORY?
Yes lol, who doesn’t?

NR is doing quite well for themselves and are already branching into a broader product range and I heard through the grape vines that they are already sporting winter gear.

To get more info on NR including how to order and get your Nerd gear on you can follow them on twitter @nerd_repulic and facebook on the Nerd Republic Clothing page. For the guys...like the NR crew always says "hot girls love nerds", don't be left behind and ladies, there is nothing hotter than a smart man who knows his game and oozes with style. Signing out on that NR Swag! ALL DAY, ER'DAY!
